Business information systems as a field of study is about the
development, management and use of information and communications
technologies. The effective and efficient use of information and
communications technologies is an important element in achieving
competitive advantage for business organisations and excellence in
service for government and non-profit organisations.
The Business Information Systems discipline at AUT’s Business School is a small but dynamic group of scholars that actively engages in research. Under the leadership of Professor Felix Tan, the focus of the discipline is on understanding the best practices relating to business process management, ICT project management, enterprise systems management as well as information systems strategy and governance. Members of the discipline also explore the role of ICT in work and organisations, developing countries and electronic business. The discipline’s research is channeled through the Centre for Research on Information Systems Management (CRISM).
Its academics have had papers published in numerous respected journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Information & Management, Electronic Markets, Organization Studies, International Journal of Production Research, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, Journal of Information Technology for Development as well as in IEEE Transactions for Engineering Management and IEEE Transactions for Professional Communications.
